An interview with Shallowpoint:
An Update on Shallowpoint
By Gabrielle-Joree Jacomet

September 18th had been the last time I'd seen
Shallowpoint. The show was to be held at Minder
Binders as an outside event with 8 bands for the day.
Towards 5 pm, it started to rain for nearly two hours.
If any of you have ever been to Minder Binders, it's
also a restaurant. If you can imagine, the bands were
literally forced to play in between tables due to Mother Nature.

At about midnight, Shallowpoint took the, well, floor, and put on an amazing performance. The energy from this band is unbelievable and the vibe from the nearly hundred people that came out to see them is beyond description. I truly think Shallowpoint is getting somewhere with their music. If you have yet to see them, stop wasting time and do it.

Shallowpoint is:

Andy – Vocals
Nick – Bass
Josh – Guitar
Mike – Guitar
Sergio – Drums

Has your style of music changes since the last time we talked to you?

Sergio: I'd have to say yes because we've been practicing a lot lately.

Josh: Yeah. Now we're utilizing the “Vance” backward scream.

Nick: The “Vance”?

Josh: Yeah. It's more punctual.

Mike: Since we've had everyone in the band, we've been growing on each other. And annoying each other. Some more than others.

Nick: You make it sound like it's the new guy.

Andy: I agree with everyone. Especially with the growing on each other. And Sergio's got some weird growth. We don't know where that came from.

Seriously, it's changed a lot because we're evolving into a band.

Mike: After knowing each other for a while, it just progresses and happens naturally.

Nick: We're trying to build a more personal sound.

Any news on an upcoming album?

Everyone: November.

Sergio: It's going to be called “Beautiful Machines”.

Mike: It'll be our first little pussy.

Josh: And we're going all out too. We're going to have it professionally pressed, zip locked and a CD release party.

What bands have you been playing with these past few months?

Sergio: Diabolic, Steel Tow (our brother band). What's the band that quit at the last show?

Mike: We're still waiting to play with Selfless.

Andy: We really look forward to playing with them eventually.

What's your favorite venue to play.

Josh: definitely the Mason Jar, mainly because every time we play a show it always goes well. It may be a little place that people bash on, but I think the Mason Jar is the best place to play.

Nick: I like the Mason Jar, personally, because I think it's the heart of the local scene.

Mike: We've had no problems with them and that helps.

Sergio. They've been supportive since day one. Mick, you rock!

Andy: And the female bartender is gorgeous.

Sergio: So is Andy's mom... that accent...

Have you been involved in any big projects?

Josh: The website!

Nick: Everyone should go to it. www.shallowpointmusic.com I am the captain of shameless self-promotion.

Josh: Also, merchandise. We have a lot of great ideas. We have t-shirts now, we want baby doll tees. Thongs!

Mike: Yeah! And we have this hot model that's modeling our thongs. Her name is Nick Vance.

Nick: She's on the website. And those tits!

Andy: I started a Yu-Gi-Oh collection. I've got like three packs. You gotta buy the right pack, gotta buy it from the right place.

Sergio: I got an iguana and so did Josh. Major project, man. He name's Kona.

When people see you for the first time, what do you want them to remember?

Andy: Probably Mike's ass. Mike's got a great ass.

Mike: Yeah. I got a nice ass.

Josh: Good performance and songs that are actually memorable.

Mike: We're better live than we are on the recording. I hate when I see a band that sounds great on the recording and they don't sound the same [live].

Nick: That'll encourage people to buy our music. “Buy the album! We sound better live!

What do you like most about your fellow band mates?

Nick: I personally like that I can trust everyone. We share a band, we make good music.

Sergio: Mainly, no matter what happens, I know these guys love me and would be willing to give up anything for this band. They're dedicated

John: Basically, we're not only band members. We're brothers. We can come to each other with anything. I know when I go to them, I'm not going to hear what I want to hear. I get the truth. The music is great. I've never written the I do with SP.

Mike: I like being around a group of hot, sweaty guys.

Has your fan base grown at all?

Nick: Yes, and thanks dearly to myspace.com and to SLAM.

John: A lot of our fan base is under 21. We had about 100 people at our last show.

Andy: Yeah, the band's getting a lot better. Even I went to the last show.

Sergio: Yeah! Shallowpoint's a cool band!
